Major League scouts potentials in summer games for Baseball Academy

League coordinator, Tony Rogolifoi said holding summer league is a way to scout at least five to six new talents every year that can be sent for two-week training in Baseball Academy in New Zealand or Australia.

Then, hopefully out of these new finds, the SML can complete the roster for the Micronesian Games that will be held in two years in Palau.

NMI is the defending champion in the Micronesian Games.

Truly a developmental program, the summer league limits the participation to players age between 15 to 25, and even those who are already in the Little League can join.

So far, two teams—Tanapag and San Roque have already signed for the summer league which according to Rogolifoi started out in 1999 as a competition by villages.  This year, they are now allowing teams with mix players from different villages.

Last year, the summer league lacked one team after the fourth one that signed backed out in the last minute.

Rogolifoi hopes to get at least four to six teams. The summer league that runs for three months usually starts in June but the SML decided to move to August due to a lot of big sports events this month.

Entry fee for SML is $800 and the teams are urged to start finding sponsors.
