670 BFF shortstop Cat Dela Cruz readies for a pick off during a playoff game of the NMI Softball Association Women’s League 2024 at the Miguel “Tan Ge” Pangelinan Softball Field on Saturday.
AFTER the conclusion of the playoffs at the Miguel “Tan Ge” Pangelinan Softball Field, the undefeated Man Amigas are set to face the Batties in the first NMI Softball Association Women’s League title match this Saturday.
The Man Amigas secured their seat in the finals after silencing the Dirty Diamonds, 10-0, last Saturday.
The Man Amigas’ reign started as early as the opening inning. After allowing the Dirty Diamonds only one hit in the top of the first, the Man Amigas went on an offensive rampage with eight runs in the bottom half of the inning.
The Dirty Diamonds struggled to find the strike zone, allowing the bases to quickly fill with one Man Amigas runner scoring off a base on balls. Even after the Dirty Diamonds’ pitcher improved her accuracy, the Man Amigas continued to thrive as they scored seven more runs led by Tal Obakrairur and Christy Aldan recording two-RBI singles each and contributing to a comfortable 8-0 lead.
For the next three innings, the Dirty Diamonds displayed stronger defense but failed to close the gap, staying scoreless.
In the bottom of the fifth, the Man Amigas’ Rosie Salaru and Keo Rios reopened the scoreboard with an RBI triple and a sacrifice hit to further extend the gap, 10-0.
The Dirty Diamonds had one more chance to stay alive in the top of the sixth, and nearly succeeded with a runner on third base. But the scoring opportunity was denied when Man Amigas’ third baseman Jaylina Borja caught a line drive for the second out, and the next batter struck out, which gave the Man Amigas a 10-0 victory.
Batties vs Lady Blue Jays
Filling the remaining spot in the finale were the Batties who outlasted the Lady Blue Jays, 7-4 on Saturday.
It was in the second inning when the Lady Blue Jays drew first blood with four runs scored, highlighted by Bong Babauta’s 2-RBI single, while the Batties could only answer with two.
The Lady Blue Jays, however, failed to score again for the rest of the game. The Batties, for their part, gradually closed the distance with two runs scored in the bottom of the fourth while adding three more in the fifth to snatch the lead and the win, 7-4.
Before securing a seat in the finals, the Batties also eliminated 670 BFF, 16-2.
