Manamko’ to join youths in DYS summer camp

The Department of Community and Cultural Affair’s Division of Youth Services has come up with an idea of bringing together the manamko’ and the youth in what the agency now calls, Manamko’ yan Manhoben Mentorship Summer Program.

The sports and cultural activities that will be held at the Oleai Sports Complex in Susupe will still be the same, only this time, the usual young participants will be having the manamko’ by their side.

Sports and Recreation Director Joe Lizama said it is going to be the first time for the DYS to hold the summer camp this way.

The activities, he said will start in Aug. 10 for the youth age 11 to 13 years old. The second session that will be held for the youths 14 to 17 years old will be from Aug. 24 to Sept. 2.

Both sessions will be attended by the manamko’.

On Monday, Wednesday and Friday youths and manamko’ will play basketball, tee ball and dance hip hop together. On Tuesday and Thursday, they will be doing volleyball and Polynesian dance.

In the 14 to 17 years old session, the youths and manamko’ will share skills in track field, soccer on Monday, Wednesday and Friday and will do softball on Tuesday and Thursday. They will also continue doing the basketball.
