Mancao is a student at the University of Guam. Also selected to attend the Forum was Maria Dunn, of Guam.
The Forum is a biennial gathering of university students, staff, and senior figures involved in university sport from around the world.
The Forum offers delegates from all nations the opportunity to compare university sport programs within different countries, and to discuss the role of FISU and its sporting programs. Each day will feature conference-style discussions, workshops, and presentations, as well as cultural excursions.
Further information about the Forum can be found at http://www.universiadavigo.com. Mancao will receive a full scholarship to attend the Forum. The scholarship will include round-trip air fare, meals, lodging, and registration fees.
The scholarships, one for a male student and one for a female student, were awarded by OUSA from nominations submitted by its member countries. Each OUSA member country had the opportunity to nominate one male student and one female student. NMASA is a member of FISU and its Oceania Zone, OUSA. All full-time students at any college or university (including Northern Marianas College) who are CNMI residents were eligible to compete for these scholarships.
Mancao is the reigning NMASA-Tan Su Lin Foundation Student Athlete of the Year for 2009. He expects to represent the CNMI at the Micronesian Games in Palau later this year.
NMASA President Michael A. White extended his congratulations to Mancao on his selection.
“Matthew is an outstanding young student-athlete, and a fine young man. We take great pride in the fact that he was selected to
represent university athletes from Oceania at the FISU Forum. We also want to thank FISU and OUSA for giving the NMI the opportunity to participate, and for the many benefits that our membership in FISU affords us,” White said.
