IN celebration of The Marianas’ top industry, the Marianas Visitors Authority and Run Saipan will host the Tourism Month 5K Sunset Run on Monday, May 19, starting at Garapan Fishing Base.
Registration is free and opened on May 9 at RaceRoster.com (https://raceroster.com/events/2025/105717/tourism-month-5k-sunset-run).
“Sports tourism is an important market for the MVA, and we’re so happy to partner with Run Saipan — a firmly established running club in The Marianas — to host the Tourism Month 5K Sunset Run for both our residents and our visitors,” said MVA Community Projects Specialist Sherman Santos, the lead organizer for Marianas Tourism Month activities. “We invite everyone to come out for a short run or walk on May 19 as we celebrate tourism and all the important ways it benefits our community.”
The race starts at 5:45 p.m., and onsite registration opens at 5 p.m. Cash prizes will be awarded to the top 3 finishers in the male and female categories, along with the best overall costume relating to tourism.
“Tourism is everybody’s business. No truer words have been said as from the Marianas Visitors Authority,” said Run Saipan President Edward Dela Cruz. “As we enter May, we would like to recognize all the hard work MVA and its team has done for the CNMI. Tourism is one of the four pillars necessary for the survival of the commonwealth, and MVA is doing its part in keeping it from falling apart. We welcome everyone to please join us for this sunset walk in promotion of tourism for the CNMI.”
The course will run south along Saipan Beach Road pathway, turn around at the Japanese tank at Quartermaster Road intercession, and return. Saipan Beach Road pathway, a popular exercise and leisure locale in The Marianas, was recently included in a cover article in hey!Travel magazine featuring some of the destination’s local hidden gems available for visitors to enjoy.
