Matansa is NMIFA women’s recreational football champion

The Matansa center-midfielder knew there was no way to miss the penalty kick, and she knew as well it could be their winning goal.

She made it handing Matansa the Northern Mariana Island Football Association Women’s Recreational Football League championship, 1-0.

And with only over 30 minutes left of the final game, the Matansa stood their ground harder than they way they did it against the Independent last Monday.

“We had a very solid defense, we all played fast and strong,” Davis said after receiving their trophy following the championship game.

She said Melody Matson who defended the goal in the first half had a sense of the game and was always in the right position. Noi Horey, she added also foiled many attempts.

The Matansa had only a couple opportunities to goal in the first half but the MP United ladies were as strong as they were when they defeated Paire last Thursday. They prevented all the Matansa’s attempt in the earlier half of the game.

Davis said she picked a break away from the center line, Madison Smith had a great cross from the right field to the center but all these landed in the hands of MP United’s goal keeper.

During the playoff, Matansa pounded Independent Football Club, 4-1 with Jamie Davis’s two successful attacks, one from Nicole Le Blanc and the Independent defenders’ backfire.
