MOUNT Carmel School and Saipan Southern High School came out on top in the first regular points race of the PSS-NMNPSF Interscholastic Outrigger Race Series SY24-25 at Kilili Beach on Saturday.
MCS currently holds a slight lead in the girls division with an accumulated score of 32 points.
In the preliminary round of the 500m event, Kagman High School set the pace as they finished first with a time of 03:34.570 while MCS followed at 03:42.170 and Marianas High School came in third at 03:51.880. SSHS finished fourth at 04:08.910.
In the finals, however, MCS clinched first place with a time of 03:42.480 while SSHS came in second at 03:42.970 followed by MHS at 03:47.690, and KHS at 03:51.970.
MCS earned a total of 19 points, SSHS garnered 11 while KHS and MHS obtained 9 points each.
In the 1000m race, MHS finished first in the prelim with a time of 07:42.890 while KHS claimed second, clocking 08:06.630. MCS was third at 08:06.960 while SSHS was disqualified for impeding a lane during the second turn.
MHS solidified their victory in the finals as they again finished first, this time clocking 07:51.350. MCS was second at 08:07.350 followed by KHS at 08:26.510 and SSHS at 08:28.100.
MHS gathered a total of 21 points followed by MCS with 13, KHS with 11, and SSHS with 2.
While MHS dominated the longer sprint event, MCS’ consistency secured them the top spot on the leaderboard with 32 points. MHS followed closely with 30 points, while KHS and SSHS finished with 20 and 13 points, respectively.
The girls of SSHS may have seen better days, but the boys lifted team morale by dominating their division with a total of 40 points.
In the 500m prelim, KHS showcased their quickness with a first-place finish, clocking 03:10.420. SSHS came in second at 03:18.770 followed by MHS at 03:23.010 and MCS at 03:28.300.
In the finals, however, SSHS clinched first place with a time of 03:14.450, beating KHS, which clocked 03:21.570. In third was MHS at 03:36.150 while MCS was disqualified.
MHS led the 500m distance with a total of 17 points followed by SSHS with 14, MHS with 9, and MCS with 1.
Where SSHS excelled was in the 1000m event.
In the prelim, SSHS finished first with nearly half a minute to spare, clocking 06:42.860 while KHS came in second at 07:04.790. MCS was third at 07:14.150, and MHS finished fourth at 07:17.700.
In the finals, SSHS bested the competition anew by finishing first with a time of 06:51.650 followed by KHS at 07:06.640 and MCS at 07:21.740. MHS was disqualified.
SSHS completed the 1000m event with a total of 21 points followed by KHS with 15, MCS with 5, and MHS with 1.
SSHS’ performance throughout the day placed them at the top of the leaderboard with 40 points, followed closely by KHS with 32 while MCS and MHS each earned 10 points.
