MOUNT Carmel School and Tanapag Middle School bested their respective opponents in the girls middle school division opening games of the PSS-NMIVA Interscholastic Volleyball League SY24-25 at the Marianas High School gym on Tuesday.
MCS II took three sets to defeat Chacha Ocean View Middle School II.
The first set had MCS II in control as they worked to utilize all three touches before making the return, and were led by Khylee Santos, Kennani Villagomez and Ava Sablan to grasp the early lead and claim the first set, 21-15.
In the second set, Chacha II returned with a vengeance and became more aware of their approach to each possession. Thanks to Keanalise Sablan, Leila Leightley, Joretia Limes and the rest of the team, they eventually wore down MCS II to clinch the second set, 23-21.
In the third and final set, both teams vied for control via early returns and a handful of spike finishes. However, Chacha II’s unforced errors thwarted their ability to score while MCS II reigned supreme, 15-13, to record their first win of the season.
Other games
Tanapag Middle School triumphed over Francisco M. Sablan Middle School, 21-19, 22-24, 15-6.
For their part, MCS I outscored Chacha I, 21-18, 21-13; TMS II took down Hopwood Middle School II, 21-15, 21-10; and Dandan Middle School outlasted HMS, 21-12, 21-17.
