THE defending champion, Marianas High School, kicked off the PSS-NMIBF Interscholastic Basketball League SY24-25 boys high school division with a bang by defeating Mount Carmel School, 51-44, at the Gilbert C. Ada Gymnasium on Friday.

The MHS Dolphins played like true champions as they quickly established control in the first half.

The spotlight was on Kenny Laquian, who sank a three-pointer and was just as effective from within the perimeter as he continued to finish at will, scoring 10 straight points.

On the other end, after the MCS Knights adjusted their defensive approach, offense soon followed as Lance Lerio made his way to the paint with back-to-back highlights alongside a pair of triples by teammates Eloy Deleon Guerrero and Leonard Regalado.

MHS’ Marc Tengco and Nolan Cultura joined Laquian on the frontline to keep MHS afloat by halftime, 29-22.
