MARIANAS High School defeated Saipan International School, 2-0, to win the boys high school division championship of the NMIFA-PSS Interscholastic Soccer League SY23-24 at the NMI Soccer Training Center in Koblerville on Thursday.
It was an exciting match filled with back-and-forth action as both teams played as equals in the first half of the match. Neither team was able to score.
In the second half, after several exchanges, MHS started to gain momentum and were finally rewarded with their first goal at the 42nd minute mark courtesy of Tyler Omelau for a 1-0 lead.
MHS continued to apply pressure and slipped through once again, this time with Anthony Bergancia delivering the goal to make it 2-0.
Unable to find an answer, SIS had to settle for defeat.
SSHS vs MCS
In the battle for third place, Saipan Southern High School edged Mount Carmel School, 3-2.
In the first half, SSHS’ Mark Patubo and Arif Khan scored a goal each. MCS retaliated with two goals scored by Ruben Guerrero and Markus Toves, but they could not prevent SSHS’ Patubo from scoring the game-winning goal.
