From the get-go, the Hoopaholics were the better team as they outscored Mobil, 23-15, in the first quarter behind Dave Sablan’s 12 points and Kelvin Fitial’s nine.
But Mobil clawed their way back behind 11 points from Estolas eventually trailing the Hoopaholics only by three, 40-37, heading into halftime.
Mobil came out of the intermission much stronger as Estolas posted nine for the quarter and had help from teammates, Derrik Aughenbaugh, Larry Sharry, Gyles Ruluked, Gil Gapor, and Pete Lizama.
The teamwork paid off as they went to the final quarter tied up with the Hoopaholics.
Once the fourth quarter began, Mobil hit the ground running and broke the game open, scoring 33 to the Hoopaholics’ 19.
After an impressive offensive showing in the first three quarters, the Hoopaholics’ Sablan and Fitial only scored a combined six points in the final ten minutes, when it counted.
Their team only had four players on the scoreboard, as opposed to their opposition’s balanced scoring effort, which saw nine of its players posting marks.
Mobil’s win gives them a share of the lead on top of the league with Visminda-Satbahi.
Mobil’s Estolas scored a game-high 32 points and had four rebounds. Ruluked was a beast on the boards, grabbing 17 rebounds to go with his solid 22 points for a double-double.
Sablan top scored for the Hoopaholics with 28 points to go along with his four assists and three steals. Villacrusis had an impressive 26 points and seven rebounds, while Fitial added 19 for their team’s losing effort.
The second game scheduled that night between Namfrel-Proa and Cabalen-Noni was cancelled due to moisture on the court.
With the heavy rain last Saturday, the TSL Sports Complex basketball court was deemed unplayable by players, referees, and league organizers.
Due to safety concerns, the game between the Proa and Noni are postponed to a later date.
