MPU, Kanoa bag U14 soccer titles

MP United and Kanoa football clubs defeated their adversaries in their respective championship matches to claim the U14 division titles of the TakeCare Youth Soccer League Spring 2025 at the NMI Soccer Training Center in Koblerville on Saturday.

MP United outscored Matansa Football Club, 3-1, to top the U14 boys division for the second season in a row.

The stakes were high as both teams vied for dominance, but it was MPU that eventually gained the upper hand.

From the first whistle, MPU displayed sharp coordination and strategic aggression. The team wasted no time setting the tone, while Matansa was overwhelmed just four minutes into play, as MPU’s Xavier Camacho capitalized on the weak side to score the first goal of the game, making it 1-0.

MPU prolonged the onslaught and broke through the defensive line once again — this time with Ezekiel Babauta making the highlight reel with a goal in the 10th minute to stretch the lead to 2-0.

Matansa regrouped and found their rhythm within the next 10 minutes. After several exchanges, Michael Olaitiman netted a brilliant goal to narrow the score to 2-1, putting the pressure back on MPU.

The match intensified in the second half, with both sides trading shots and their goalkeepers making crucial saves.

As the clock wound down, MPU proved they could deliver in crunch time, with Mateo Angeles firing the dagger in the 46th minute to seal the 3-1 win and secure the U14 boys division championship.

Although MFC settled for second place, Eleazir Mettao didn’t go home empty-handed — he earned the Golden Boot award for scoring 17 goals this season.

U17 girls title

Sharing the spotlight was Kanoa Football Club as they bagged the U17 girls title by outplaying Latte Football Club, 4-1.

Both teams started evenly, trading shots in the early stages of the opening half.

Kanoa opted for an aggressive approach, quickly breaking through Latte’s defense and giving Beatrice Gross enough space to fire an uncontested shot in the 7th minute to take a 1-0 lead.

Latte’s Elyza Brillo found the back of the net in the 16th minute, but just two minutes later, Rhiana Macalinao struck back to restore Kanoa’s lead at 2-1.

Kanoa denied Latte any time to recover, creating several scoring opportunities that allowed Gross to net two consecutive goals in the 23rd and 26th minutes, securing the 4-1 win and the U17 girls division title.

Gross also earned the Golden Boot award for scoring a total of 20 goals this season.
