NED Norita notched the Amigos Golf Club 2023 Ace of Aces title via a tiebreaker at the Laolao Bay Golf & Resort over the weekend.
Norita played well throughout the two-day tournament, maintaining a steady swing and a soft touch.
On day 1, Saturday, on the west course, Norita shot a birdie and made two bogeys to end with a gross of 75. Although he sported a handicap of 5 only, he was still ahead of the competition with a net score of 70.
Four strokes behind was Sixtus Aquino who made several bogeys to end with a gross of 93, but his handicap of 19 gave him a net score of 74.
Norita continued to ride the momentum on day 2, which was held Sunday on the east course.
The veteran golfer recorded four bogeys, but kept a tight downswing and shot four birdies to garner a net gross of 78 and a net score of 73 for a net total of 143.
Aquino, for his part, improved his game on day 2, shooting a gross of 88 which gave him a net score of 69 and a net total of 143, to force a scorecard playoff.
With the better tiebreak score, Norita claimed the 2023 Ace of Aces title and $300 cash prize.
Ten players competed for the coveted title.
Aquino did not go home empty handed as he won the 2023 Amigos Cup based on a point system utilized at the PGA FedEx Cup.
Non-ace
In the non-ace tournament, there was a two-way tie between Syl Ada and Manny Tenorio, both sharing a net total of 133.
However, in the scorecard playoff, Tenorio edged Ada to win the title and the $125 cash prize. Ada settled for the $100 second prize.
The rest of the top 10 were Dung Tenorio (138), Domingo Atalig (141), Joe Sablan Jr. (143), Fred Salavaria (146), Ed Manglona (151), Ben Jones Sr. (153), Alfred Aldan (155) and Eric Mandell (158).
