During last month’s meeting NMASA President Michael White reported that he attended the recent Oceania National Olympic Committee in Nouméa, New Caledonia.
ONOC officially amended their constitution to allow associate memberships which benefited the CNMI substantially. The Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands’ status has now been changed from unofficial associate member to official associate member.
The Northern Marianas Islands Football Association also announced its withdrawal from the Pacific Games because the Oceania Football Confederation sanctioned the 2011 Pacific Games as an Oceania Zone qualifying tournament for the World Cup. NMIFA was asked to withdraw since it is not a member of the Oceania Zone.
NMASA also received an invitation from the Guam National Olympic Committee to send two representatives to attend the Regional Sports Medicine Course from May 11 – 14, 2011. Expenses will be paid by the Guam Amateur Sports Association. Dr. Tony Stearns and Dr. Nathan Tan have confirmed their participation for the course.
The Pacific Games council executives will be conducting a site visit and is expected to arrive late this month. The members may include President Vidhya Lakhan, Vice President Jim Tobin, Secretary General David Boyd, and Executive Director Andrew Minogue.
Gabriel White also reported during the meeting that the NMASA Women’s Beach Volleyball Team will be competing in the Olympic qualifying tournament next year.
