NMI earns 17 medals in swimming, loses to Palau in fast-pitch softball

TEAM Marianas’ swim team is still in the spotlight at the 2024 Micronesian Games in Majuro, Marshall Islands, winning 17 medals — 11 gold, 2 silver, 4 bronze —  during the finals at the Kwajalein pool on Wednesday.

The NMI’s Isaiah Aleksenko, Kean Pajarillaga and Maria Batallones collected a pair of gold medals each.

Aleksenko topped the Men’s 100 yard IM and 100 yard butterfly events while Pajarillaga ruled the men’s 200 yard backstroke and 500 yard freestyle.

 Batallones finished first in the women’s 50 yard breaststroke and 100 yard IM, and won a silver in the women’s 100 yard butterfly while Frances Raho medaled in the women’s 200 yard backstroke and 500 yard freestyle.

Also winning medals were Kouki Watanabe with one gold in the men’s 50 yard breaststroke and a bronze in the 100 yard butterfly; Shoko Litulumar with a silver in the women’s 200 yard backstroke; Justin Ma with two bronze medals in the men’s 200 yard backstroke and 500 yard freestyle; and Sari Barman with a bronze in the women’s 500 yard freestyle.

Team Marianas likewise earned two more gold medals after Maria Guerrero, Litulumar, Raho, and Batallones topped the women’s 400 freestyle relay and 400 yard freestyle relay while Micheal Miller, Pajarillaga, Watanabe, and Aleksenko ruled 400 yard freestyle relay.

As for the women’s fast-pitch softball, the NMI suffered another loss, this time against Palau, 2-13.
