AIDEN Gimed and his coach Angel San Nicolas left the island on Friday to compete at the 2024 Oceania Senior, Junior & Youth Weightlifting Championships in Auckland, New Zealand from Feb. 21 to 27.

Before leaving Saipan, Gimed shared what was going through his mind. “I’m just going to make sure I get my training in during the week of competition and…that my recovery is on point. It’s more mental now as we get closer to competition day,” he told Variety. “I am really excited…to…compete off island because I have been mostly on Guam and Saipan.”

As for competition day in New Zealand, he said, “What I’m mainly focused on…is…to do my best and…make a new [personal best] for my total Snatch and [Clean & Jerk].”

Gimed will compete this Thursday in the 81kg category at 4 p.m. NZ time, which is 1 p.m. in the Marianas.
