Tiana Cabrera, right, leads a group of runners during the Wesleyan Cardinal Invitational cross country race on Saturday in Middletown, Connecticut.
TIANA Cabrera participated in the Wesleyan Cardinal Invitational on Saturday in Middletown, Connecticut and finished 14th with a time of 24:33.0. It was her first collegiate cross country race.
The NMI-born athlete maintained a steady pace throughout the 5K hilly course.
“The toughest part of the race was probably how spread it was — more than I was used to — but that’s what I enjoyed about it. And of course, it was hillier,” said the Wesleyan University freshman.
She said her 14th-place finish encouraged her to further push past her limit. “Racing as a college athlete and being surrounded by students who have a similar passion and drive motivates me to improve my performance,” Cabrera said. “I am incredibly grateful to be able to race with such a diverse and talented team and amazing coaches.”
Cabrera’s teammates in the race were the first six runners to cross the finish line, which put Wesleyan University in first place with a total time of 01:41:11.
