NMI’s workhorse competes in 2 big tournaments

In an interview after winning last night’s Big League championship game against the Philippines All Stars, Iguel said the coaching team and the manager of the NMI Big Little League are aware of his participation in the Oceania Championship.

They in fact watched him competed in eight events of Oceania Grand Prix Series and Under 18 and Open Area Championship.

The 2008 Oceania tournaments was held from June 21 to June 28, while the Asia-Pacific Regional Baseball Tournament, from June 28 to July 3. Both tournaments are very important sports that CNMI was hosting for the first time, and Iguel found himself straddling in between.

Although he knew it is going to be very stressful, considering a non-stop practice for two different kinds of sports, Iguel was confident he can make it. Perhaps, he could excel in both.

Iguel started flexing his muscles since October last year for the Oceania tournaments and during such events, he managed to find time practicing for the Asia-Pacific baseball meet.

“I was looking forward to join in both sports. I practice for both baseball and sprint everyday,” he said.

But during the Oceania championship he concentrated on sports event at hand and never thought about the next one.

Iguel did not won a medal in the Oceania but he’s done a lot as he and NMI’s fastest young man, Tyrone Omar were always in the top five of many of the events.

Iguel who only had one day rest between the two sports events said the speed he got from practicing for the Oceania was his great advantage in the Asia-Pacific Baseball Tournament.
