In a telephone interview yesterday, Diaz expressed doubt if they can resume the basketball league because the whole features of the facility’s lighting equipment are not yet installed.
The light bulbs, the sockets and the covering, Diaz said are still not on so it will take a while before they could move ahead of the tournament.
Diaz said they need to go on now with the NYBA tournament because most of their teams are now already planning to participate in the coming Rotary Club Basketball League.
He said he wants the NYBA to finish first before they can join the Rotary.
Most of the NYBA teams he said want to play in the Rotary but “we don not want to go in conflict with the Rotary league.”
Diaz believes that as soon as the light bulbs are installed, they can finish the NYBA league in two weeks.
The NYBA was interrupted after the urgent call to fix the Garapan Basketball Court which was then, in hazardous condition.
The renovation was completed two weeks ago but Diaz found out that the light bulbs are missing.
The NYBA he said is grateful to the lawmakers, especially Rep. Edward Salas who, upon seeing the hazardous condition of the facility a few months ago, worked out to fund its renovation.
