THE Old Aces bagged their first win in the Masters “Internal” Basketball League by dismantling Triple L/Tax Pro, 97-47, at the Ada gym on Saturday.

In the first five minutes of the opening quarter, Triple L/Tax Pro went toe-to-toe with Old Aces in a series of exchanges. Triple L/Tax Pro’s Manny Embile stood at the frontline to score five points while teammates Rommel Usi, Sonny Lerio and Ogie Pagcalioagan delivered a bucket each.

But the Old Aces had a more versatile approach as Tony Diaz and Dan Joab extended their range by sinking a triple each while Romeo Iginoef wreaked havoc from within the perimeter with four made jump shots to gain a comfortable lead, 22-13.

Although Triple L/Tax Pro’s Fradel Sedillo kept the team in the limelight with eight straight points  in the second period, they missed several shots that allowed the Old Aces’ Diaz to turn defensive stops into fastbreak opportunities for a double-digit advantage, 41-31.

The Old Aces’ lead only grew larger as Colin Thompson and Dennis Mendiola made their presence and height known from underneath the rim by denying second-chance attempts while capitalizing off put-backs.

Triple L/Tax Pro tried to get back in the game, but they failed to convert a single point in the fourth and final quarter and had to bow down to the Old Aces, 47-97.
