At least six sluggers’ team could have gotten the opportunity to participate in the championship round but since second and third placers are required to play a minimum of two games to qualify for the fourth round, their presence in the third leg was crucial.
The Falcons and 670 Sakau’s failure to complete the two-game requirement left only the Kulan Zamu, Pac Chain and Team Banzai playing in the wild card round scheduled for Oct. 3 to 4 at the Capital Hill Softball Field.
The Advance Xterminators who continue to dominate the three rounds of the tournament clinched the first slot in the championship.
Natibu did not defeat the Xterminators during the second leg but their runner victory gave them the second slot in the championship round, and Saipal clinched berth during last Saturday’s game.
The winner of Round 5 or the Saipan leg will represent Saipan in the 2009 Budweiser King and Queens of the Diamond Softball Tournament that Saipan will host on Nov. 12 to 15. The other King & Queen of the Diamond island champions are teams from Guam, Palau and Pohnpei.
