Pacific Games golf qualifier starts next week

The NMI coordinating panel for the national team has yet to hear from the Pacific Games organizers about the exact opening date but it is now trying to complete the golfers’ squad for Nomea, New Caledonia in 2011.

Wabol said local golfers vying for the national team slot will have four rounds of qualifier series, the first round will start at the Coral Ocean Point Resort.

The game starts at 12 noon.

Open to all, the qualifying tournament, Wabol said, may extend to fifth round for a make up.

For the interested golfers, one of the requirements is U.S. citizenship. Participants must be a U.S. passport holder.

Wabol added that golfers will shoot at the white tee.

After the first phase of the qualifying round, the top 12 golfers will advance to the finals which will be made up of eight to 10 rounds.

Wabol said they hope to have the qualifying round series done early this year so they can focus on team practice sessions and fund raising events.

“Those willing to be part of CNMI golf team, this is the chance to earn the five slots including the player coach, for the national team,” Wabol said.
