Padres silence White Sox in three innings, 16-0

THE Padres bagged their fifth win of the season with finesse by blanking the White Sox in just three innings, 16-0, in the 2024 Tan Holdings Saipan Baseball League at the Francisco “Tan Ko” Palacios Baseball Field on Monday.

The Padres established control right from the start as the first two White Sox outs were highlighted by a double-play followed by a flyout caught by the Padres’ second baseman Kyle Hocog to deny the White Sox from recording any hits.

The White Sox also struggled on the defensive end as they walked the first three batters. The Padres then scored their first two runs thanks to unforced errors. JP Sablan brought in the third run to earn an RBI double while two more runs slipped by due to more White Sox errors before they could stop the bleeding.

Down 0-5 in the top of the second inning, the White Sox seemed to have finally caught a break as they filled the bases quickly. They were in play for a scoring opportunity with only one out, but the Padres  picked off a runner on second and followed up with a strikeout with two runners left on bases.

In the bottom half, the Padres continued to stretch their lead due mainly to the White Sox’s defensive errors. Five runs were scored by the Padres before the first out with Kolby Lifoifoi, JP Sablan, Kyle Hocog and Keith Kintol each earning RBI singles. Two more runs were added as Rich Salas and Jonah Flores joined the list of RBI contributors to give the Padres a double-digit lead, 12-0.

In the third inning, the Padres’ pitcher, Arby Yaguel, recorded two strikeouts while another pickoff closed the top half. The Padres then added four more runs for a commanding 16-0 lead.

The White Sox had one last chance to stay in the ball game, but were met with three consecutive outs, which ended the game via the 10-run rule.
