Fernando “Pando” Muleta, PilCoWA sports coordinator, said they have acquired the commitment of Pacific Trading Corp. – the official distributor of various products including San Miguel Beer.
With this development, Muleta said, the league will now be called PilCoWA/San Miguel Beer Basketball League.
He said it has been quite a while for them to scout for a major sponsor to make the sports event possible, but now that a generous organization has shown its commitment, the league now has a clear direction.
Earlier, PilCoWA has coined the caging league Inter-color Basketball League.
The upcoming basketball league will be PilCoWA’s first time to engage in a sports activity for basketball enthusiasts to join.
Aside from the change of name of the league, a change of schedule for the opening games has also been set, Muleta said.
From the scheduled opening games on Saturday, September 27, the association has decided to move the date on October 12, Sunday.
This change in schedule aims to allow more teams to join the league as some groups have expressed their intention to compete but do not have a complete team roster and official uniforms yet, Muleta said.
The association has held two meetings with the registered teams and other prospective participants in order to iron out issues on team uniforms, official name of teams, rules and regulations of the games, and other concerns, the sports coordinator added.
Currently, one more team has been added to the league.
There are now 7 teams that have signed up, whereas before there were only six.
Muleta has not yet disclosed a single name of participating teams as they are still in the process of finalizing their rosters and team names.
He reminds interested groups to register with PilCoWA soon as the league’s kickoff date approaches.
Muleta can be reached at 285-9783.
