THE Pirates remain the top team in the 2023 SBL Masters League as they improved their flawless record to 7-0 by trouncing the Reds, 14-1, on Tuesday at the Francisco “Tan Ko” Palacios Baseball Field.

The Reds seemed to have started the ball game on the right foot as first at bat Justin Reyes rounded the bases and snuck past home base in a fielder’s choice before the Pirates took over the first inning with three consecutive outs.

Taking advantage of the Reds’ defensive errors, the Pirates’ first four at bat safely reached home to grasp the upper hand, 4-1.

Both teams stepped up their game in the second inning but no hits were allowed. In the bottom of the third, the Pirates went on a scoring spree with Joey Dela Cruz earning RBIs as he brought in two runners on base followed by RBI singles from Mario Aguon, Jesse Guerrero, and Jesse Tenorio.

With the Reds committing  more defensive errors, the Pirates scored 10 runs that put them ahead way ahead, 14-1.

The Reds eventually secured three straight outs in the bottom of the fourth inning, but they failed to score again and was forced to accept defeat with only five innings played.
