Pirates power past Blue Jays, remain undefeated

THE Pirates took down the Blue Jays, 23-15, at the Francisco “Tan Ko” Palacios Baseball Field on Thursday, and have yet to taste defeat in the 2023 SBL Masters League.

It was a slow start for both teams.

The Pirates drew first blood with a single run scored in the top of the opening inning, but it was answered in the bottom of the second with the Blue Jays’ Cris George hitting an RBI single to even the score, 1-1.

In the top of the third, the Pirates  regained control with three runs followed by one more in the top of the fifth. However, after two quiet innings, the Blue Jays soared high in the bottom of the fifth with six runs highlighted by Kevin Kaipat’s RBI double to grasp control, 7-5.

The Pirates caught up with eight runs in the seventh inning, but the Blue Jays continued to fight back with seven runs of their own in the bottom half to remain afloat, 14-13.

In the top of the seventh and final inning, the Pirates found their second wind as they capitalized off the Blue Jays’ defensive errors by scoring 10 runs. The Blue Jays could only deliver one run and had to settle for defeat, 15-23.
