ROUND-ONE of the Commonwealth Football League is completed and the Budweiser Predators remain undefeated and the dominant team in the CFL, the CNMI’s only adult football league.
The Predators ran thru the inaugural 2001 season and captured the championship with a perfect 7 and 0 record. Thus far, Budweiser again have a spotless record going 2-0 in both their matches. In second place this season is the Miller Lite Barbarians at 1-1 while the Verizon Blaze sit in the cellar with a 0-2 mark.
Tomorrow at 10am at Hopwood Jr. High Field, round two of the season kicks off as the Predators take on the Blaze. Once again, it will be up to Verizon to find a way to at least slow-down the high-powered offense of Bud and for the Blaze offense to gell and get past Bud’s stingy defensive unit.
Due to the running of the Extera Event Saturday Morning, please be advised, several roads will be closed between 8am and 1pm, so make plans to leave earlier or look for alternate routes to get to Hopwood Jr. High Field in time for the 10am kick-off.
As in any team sport the overall team effort usually indicates how well that squad will do in competition. However it is the individual efforts that shine during the games; thus, the following are the top individual position rankings and team statistics for the first round of the 2002 CFL season.
