(SSA) – The NMC Proa behind Jess Castro’s four-hitter in five innings and Tyrone Attao’s four RBIs captured the 2002 Saipan Softball Association Pennant Title with a sixth inning, 12-2, ten-run rule shut-out as the league close out its regular season.
The Proa scored two runs in the bottom of the second inning on Ken Kalen’s RBI single aided by three Sunrisers error to take the lead for good, 2-0. After the Sunrisers managed a run in the top of the third inning on Erik Tudela’s RBI double, the Proas then scored six unanswered runs with three in the third and three more in the fifth led by Attao’s two RBIs for a, 8-1, lead. They went on to score four of the last five runs including four in their half of the sixth inning for the shut-out.
Gloyd Martin scored four times and Elmer Sablan trice to chip in for the Proas. The win gave the Proas a, 18-3, mark, a game ahead of runner-up Team Mauleg which finished the season with a, 19-4, record. Tony Satur came in relief of Castro in the top of the sixth inning allowing one unearned run with a strike-out to capture both the strike-out and earnrun title.
