Registration will start at 6 am, and the event will include an entry fee of $20 – students and those from the military may pay $10. Runners will have a chance to receive race t-shirts, cash, certificates, and medals. Prizes will also be awarded to the top three adult and youth males and females.
“Every year our local athletes crave events that will give them a way to test their abilities, while at the same time, athletes from around the world search the globe for their next adventure destination. The 2010 Saipan Radar Run represents an excellent opportunity to market the beauty and wonder of our island’s northern reaches and provide our community with a much needed athletic event of the highest quality,” said head organizer Brad Ruszala.
Runners and walkers alike will be reaching the top of the As Matuis cliff line, while the downhill trip will provide a scenic view of the reef and water along Saipan’s lagoon.
“The 2010 Saipan Radar Run also serves as a tune-up for local competitors preparing for the upcoming Turkey Trot that takes runners from CUC Beach to the top of Mount Tapochau, as well as to provide recreational runners the opportunity to enjoy another quality local event,” added Ruszala.
He noted that promotion of the 2010 Saipan Radar Run can be used as a “weapon in the Department of Health’s arsenal, as physicians continue to wage a war on diabetes in the Marianas.”
While the Saipan Radar Run continues developing in the community, Ruszala has been successful in hosting other island-wide events such as the Powerade Banzai Memorial Half Marathon, which took place last month.
65-100 participants are expected to register for the event, which is sponsored by the Xterra Saipan Championship, Taga Inc., Marianas Visitors Authority, Mayor of Saipan, Gold’s Gym, Triple J Super Fresh Market, IT&E, National Office Supply, Brabu Pharmacy, All-Star Sporting Goods, The Athlete’s Foot, Powerade, Foremost, Michelob Ultra, Saipan Tribune, and Digital Motion.
