The Rota Blue, one of the islands major sports events is set for Nov. 14 but there will be participants’ pre-race briefing at 6:30 p.m., on Nov. 13 at Rota Resort.
The event will be hosted again by the KFC Triathlon Club Japan, MVA and Rota Mayor’s Office.
Like in previous years, this year’s event involves two solo triathlons and one team triathlon.
The Type A solo triathlon which has no time limit includes 1.5 kilometer swim, 40-kilometer bike and 10 kilometer 10-run courses. The Type B solo triathlon that is limited to eight hours includes two-kilometer swim, 90-kilometer bike and 21-kilometer run courses.
The kick-off time is 6:30 a.m., at the East Harbor.
Prizes await the top three finishers among men and women in each category.
Over 100 triathletes mostly from Japan participated in last year’s 15th Rota Blue Triathlon.
Japan’s 2008 Beijing Olympian Ryosuke Yamamoto won the championship as he crossed the finish line with a winning time of 1:57:18 in men’s Type A division. Yuuya Fukaura was the second finisher with 2:05:15 hours, and Yu Yumoto placed third as he trailed to close behind Fukaura with 2:08:11.
In women’s Type A division, Satomi Ookouchi finished first completing the entire race in 2:28:08. Guam’s Sarah Mutler placed second with a total combined time of 2:57:36, while Nahoko Niwatook finished the race in 2:59:20.
As always, Rota Mayor Joseph S. Inos supported last year’s Rota Blue and is likely to do so again this year.
