With pitcher Saipan Mayor Donald Flores striking out nine in one inning of the final game the Peleliu Athletes Club of Saipan beat Peleliu Palau and Peleliu Guam in the Masters and Open divisions of the second good will tournament hosted on July 29, 30, and 31 by the regional Peleliu organization.
Tanner Kenty was the only one who launched an inside-the-park home run but Poland Masaharu Jr., punished the Palau Pelelius in the Masters final game with most runs, to hand the Saipan Pelelius a 15-6 victory.
In the Open Division, the Palau Peleliu still failed to make it up as their Saipan counterparts beat them, 19-9.
The Saipan sluggers however, went behind in the coed division placing only third. The Guam Pelelius won the championship over Palau Pelelius.
Norman Mobel, the president of Peleliu Athletes Club of Saipan said they have reinforced their team with a squad of the best pitcher, sluggers and runners.
This time around, Mobel said those who made it harder for Guam and Palau to recover last year’s losses were Leo Bobai, Mobel Ngirngmelas, Dominic Remeliik, Joe Johannes, Brian Adelbai and Perry Besong.
Mobel said these players did not make it last year because there were many events that they had to attend. Their presence, he said reinforced their team, he added.
And those who played last year, especially those who helped secured the Masters crown played better this time.
“We did a lot of practice,” he said.
At least 40 delegations represented Saipan in the event.
The other Saipan Pelelius who helped reap this year’s titles were Charley Kenty, Poland Masaharu, Theo Minor, Dennis Renguul, Darwin Masaharu, McQueen Masaharu, Clayton Kenty, Gayvan Uchau, Vanessa Mobel, Clarissa Mobel, Cynthia Kintol, Eileen Kintol, Marjorie Kintol, Margie Aguon, Benylyn Mettao, Jerry Kintol and Joseph H. Kintol.
The other group members are Charo Bobai, Orpha Singeo, Martha Kintol, Dino Jones, JT Kintol, Clint M. Ngemaes, Yukiko Kintol, Jennifer Renguul, Halle Kenty, Sherry Kenty, Mya S, Ngemaes, Poleen Masaharu, Mildred Kintol, Kono Remeliik and Joshua Mangarero.
