Rocball league welcomes new teams

The Sounders faced team Salty in a tune-up game to get them used to Rocball. “The Saturday Rocball games were modified to 15 point sets to allow both teams practice times. A quarter or set game of 25 points per set usually takes about an hour per game,” said MHS’ Jim Feger in an email. The Salties forced their opponents into overtime before they lost.

Sounders’ heavy hitter and veteran player J.R. Gechig scored two aces, one xunk, three kees, and one goal for 15 points.

The Sounders’ success didn’t last long, when they were defeated 59-39 by the Soul Rebels in their second practice game. Rodney Rosario was the Rebels’ star of the night, making six aces, one xunk, two kees, and one goal for 21 points.

In last week’s high school games, team Hit It pummeled the Kingz 18-5 in the first set. The Kingz scored 17-3 in the second set before tying the game at 22-22. They suffered in the final set with a penalty point serve. Seeing their chance, the Hit Its took the lead and ‘juiced’ the Kingz 38-33. Hit It’s Isaiah Laniyo scored one ace, two kees, and one goal for nine points.

Thes Hit It’s victory pushed the Kingz out of first place. Taking the top spot are the Magics, who pounded team Yo Face 50-17. Teams Magic and Kingz are scheduled to play this Wednesday at the MHS gymnasium during lunch break.

Rocball spreads to India

Rocball’s popularity has spread to India, according to Jim Feger.

“The Rocball Federation of India, recently established under the efforts of a Mr. Chetan Pagawad of Chetan Sports, has completed the registration to establish Rocball as a sport in India,” said Feger in an email.

Pagawad is currently organizing Rocball teams in all Indian states. His primary sources for establishing ‘Saipan’s own sport’ included the Rocball website, Feger, and a copy of the Rocball handbook, among others.
