After holding its first tournament in March, alternate shot tournament last month and the two-man scramble on May 23, the Rocky Boys Club is holding its fifth individual tournament at the nine-hole golf course.
The organizers of Rocky Boys Club are those who worked as caddies and expectedly became the pioneers of golf associations on the islands.
In conversations over drinks and food, the group came up with the idea of forming the Rocky Boys to relive the nine-hole course that served as their “breeding ground.”
Jess I.Wabol recalls the idea just popped out from Joe Lizama who wanted to come up with something out of the nine-hole course.
Wabol said the ongoing tournaments that come in different forms started out as an idea to have a mini-tournament every government payday.
It now becomes another golf association, only in a smaller scale since they play only nine-hole tournaments.
After the two-man scramble on May 23, the Rocky Boys elected its officers.
They are Joe Lizama, president; Bill Kaipat vice president; Tars Olopai, secretary; Jordan Kosam, treasurer; Asterio Tawanpiy, handicap chairman and Jess I. Wabol, tournament chairman.
The other members of the club are Lou Tilipao, John Mettao, Don Fitial, Ed Olopai, Joe Itibus, Ulysses Kapileo, John Rebuenog and Joe Wabol.
