Basketball Association of Northern Mariana Islands President Elias Rangamar is now asking all team managers and coaches of the basketball league to attend a mandatory meeting at 5 p.m., today in Gilbert C. Ada Gym conference room.
The matters to be discussed include ground rules, league schedule, team registration forms and waiver forms.
Rangamar in an e-mail message said forms will be disseminated today, and the requirements and forms are due no later than 4:30 p.m., Thursday.
The Rotary caging which usually have 18-and-under players in the court will have two age group divisions year, the BANMI has announced last moth. The said league the group said will have the Under 18 and Under 14 divisions.
BANMI said it has decided to add another age group to give younger teenagers the chance to participate.
The Division 1 consists of players 12 to 14 years and the Division 2 consists of youths 15 to 18.
The managers of 10 teams have already expressed interest to join this year’s league. In the previous leagues, the BANMI said only 14 teams usually joined.
The summer league that usually starts early in June has to be moved this month due to many other important sports events.
The league is still open to those who are interested to join. They can submit to BANMI all necessary documents like birth certificate or proof of age, waiver, forms and $200 entrance fee.
The BANMI sanctioned summer league was rescheduled to give way to the 2008 Oceania Under 18 and Open Area Championship and 2008 Oceania Grand Prix Series that will be held from June 21 to 28, the Asia Pacific Regional Baseball Tournament on June 25 and on July 6 and the celebration of the Liberation Day on July 4.
Among the teams that joined last year were Sonics, Sixers and the defending champion, Junior Nationals.
