THE Saipan Little League Baseball Inc. renewed its commitment to provide the youth with an opportunity to enjoy baseball and discover their talents in the islands’ favorite sport.
In an interview on Tuesday, SLLBI President Ray N. Yumul said five years after the youth sports program was put on hold due to Covid-19 pandemic restrictions, the ball games kicked off on March 15, 2025, with a total of 320 players across all divisions. They are between nine and 16 years old and are “eager to take the field.”
Seeing actions every Saturday and Sunday at the Miguel Tange Basa Pangelinan Ballfield are 10 teams in the major division and four in the minor division. Playing at the Francisco “Tan Ko” Palacios Baseball Field, are six teams in the junior division and three in the senior division.
“We are excited to have brought the Little League back and we look forward to a wonderful playing season for our youth,” Yumul said.
He said the “restart” of the youth baseball program in the CNMI “will undoubtedly support our youth and develop successful players who may endeavor for collegiate play and beyond.”
Yumul also thanked the Saipan and Northern Islands Legislative Delegation and the Northern Marianas Sports Association for their “never-ending support” of the youth program. He extended special thanks to Rep. Elias Rangamar for donating bottled water for the game officials, and to Hawaiian Rock Products for donating crushed coral for the repair of the baseball fields at the Oleai Sports Complex.
The other SLLBI officers are Annie Flores, vice president; Peding Tenorio, treasurer; Lina Aguon, player agent; Luisa Cabrera, secretary; and Mike “Rock” Guerrero, safety officer.
