Saipan softball finds way to Marianas Cup

Mario Sablan, one of the members of last year’s defending champion said that before, the slow-pitch league usually ran in double elimination round of a few teams and whoever wins the championship did not have the chance to play in the Marianas Cup.

Now, Sablan said a greater motivating factor will move Saipan’s slow-pitch softball league because each team will be vying not only for an island-wide championship crown but for Marianas-wide fame as well.

In Marianas Cup before, another team not necessarily from SSA’s slow-pitch tournament, competed with Tinian, Rota and Guam.

Saipan’s Security Title Chura is the defending champion after defeating Guam last year.

Sablan who was with that team said the next team that will compete in this year’s Marianas Camp will be taken from SSA’s slow-pitch league.

This time, the league is open to any interested group and individual 18 years old and up. He announced that interested team managers and coaches are invited to the first meeting on July 15, 6 p.m., at the Gilbert Ada Gym conference room.
