OUTSTANDING pool players were honored for their talents and achievements throughout the 2023 season of the SBA Budweiser Open 8-Ball League during an awards banquet at the West Coast Restaurant on Sunday.
For the Tuesday Division, Chester Hamoy led the list of awardees as the Finals MVP and Run the Rack winner, five times recorded.
For 8-Ball on Break, Mei Rengiil, Maverick Espinosa, Jerry Soriano and Victory Formales shared the award while Cesar Sangalang bagged the Top Gun title. Soriano was also named the MVP of the elimination round.
For his part, Domino Anthonio is the division’s Rookie of the Year.
For the Thursday division, Charold Hamoy claimed the coveted Finals MVP award.
The Run the Rack title was shared by Arlon Buensalida, Ken Chen, Marc Nelvis, Rolly Villanueva and Erick Baugh with three each while the 8-Ball on Break award went to Ray Matsunaga, Roman Rodriguez, and Cesar Sangalang. Sangalang also won the Top Gun Award while Buensalida was named as the MVP of the elimination round. The Rookie of the Year was Roger Ragasa.
“It went well, but we had some trials and errors due to some bars closing,” league secretary Ivan Sales said. Eighteen teams participated in the Tuesday and Thursday divisions. “The Open 8-Ball League is designed to help those who are stressed and want to unwind, drink, build friendship and camaraderie,” he added.
Aside from the individual awards, SBA handed plaques of appreciation to Marpac, IT&E, Black 8 Pool Bar, Last Shot, True North Bar & Grill, and VFW Post 3457. Also recognized were Pacific Amusement, PACAM staff, Cecile Vivero, Mai Cenoza, Letty Ching, Roxanne Trombeta, Pepsi, Jack Unsa, Juan Limes, Warlee Ellama, Raymund David, Raymond Naluz, Saipan Computer Services and Ideal Signs for their generous support and donations.
