SHIRLEY’S Football Club 2 won the B Division championship of the Dove Women’s League Fall 2024 by edging Shirley’s Football Club 1, 2-1, in the title match at the NMI Soccer Training Center on Sunday.
The no. 1 seed, Shirley’s FC 1, was in control during the first few minutes of the opening half. Playing as the aggressors, they managed to quickly overwhelm Shirley’s FC 2 and create a scoring opportunity at the 6th minute mark, allowing Catalina Deal Cruz to establish an early 1-0 lead.
The slip up did not affect SFC 2, which cooked up a rally within the next several minutes. Although SFC 1 stood their ground throughout most of the exchanges, SFC 2 continued to apply pressure and were eventually rewarded for their efforts with Mikky Buno finding the back of the net at the 16th minute mark for the first deadlock of the match, 1-1.
Riding the momentum, SFC 2 used the forward pressure to maintain control of the possession and gradually found themselves deep within enemy territory at the 20th minute mark. SFC 1 thwarted most of the incoming attacks, but they inadvertently scored in their own goal, which gave SFC a 2-1 advantage.
Both teams filled the second half with back-and-forth action, including several shot attempts. However, with SFC 1 unable to connect the equalizer, SFC 2 held their ground long enough to run away with the victory, 2-1, and the B Division championship.
