THE Public School System Cross Country event kicked off Saturday morning with young runners from Grace Christian Academy, Dandan Middle School, Saipan International School, Brillian Star and Saipan Community School leading the qualifying round at airport field in Dandan.
According to Meet Director Ron Schneider, a total of 368 male and female students from seven high schools, eight middle schools and 11 elementary schools participated in the annual event, which the PSS Athletics Program organized in collaboration with Northern Marianas Athletics.
Leading the elementary school boys was GCA’s Beau Bauer, who finished the one-mile run in 6 minutes and 52 seconds. SIS’s Gabriel Walsh came in second at 7:30 while Kagman Elementary School’s Brayden Brennfleck was third at 7:43.
Brilliant Star’s LoVel Spaeth dominated the elementary girls division, clocking 7 minutes and 17 seconds. SIS’ Olivia Walsh was second at 8:06 while Kaylen Taflinger, also of SIS, clocked 8:07 for third place.
In the middle school boys division, DMS’ Yuxi Lu ruled the two-mile run with a finish time of 14 minutes and 19 seconds. Agape Christian School’s Lucas Yang came in second at 14:36 while SIS’ Euchan Ko placed third at 14:36.
In the middle school girls division, Alyssa Pailin Brasuell of Saipan Community School (not SIS’ Faith Arriola as earlier reported) finished first with a remarkable time of 15 minutes and 21 seconds.
SIS’ Nash Santos clocked 18 minutes to beat Marianas High School’s Jim Takeru by two seconds in the three-mile run of the high school boys division. Takeru came in at 18:02 for second place while ACS’s Jireh Wang, who led the first lap, finished third at 18:14.
SIS dominated the girls high school division with Kaithlyn Chavez finishing first at 20 minutes and 56 seconds. Addalee Taflinger, was second at 22:7 while Aubrey White was third at 25:06.
