Saipan International School huddles up after winning the second set against Marianas High School in a girls high school division game of the PSS-NMIVA Interscholastic Volleyball League SY24-25 at the Marianas High School gym.

SAIPAN International School’s varsity team defied the odds as they rallied past Marianas High School in a three-set battle, 16-21, 21-8, 15-12, to collect their second win in the girls high school division of the PSS-NMIVA Interscholastic Volleyball League SY24-25 at the MHS gym on Tuesday.

MHS, which sits at the top of the food chain, performed as expected in the opening set.

Leading their offense were Cassie Regan and Sheira Dela Rosa, who finished each possession with powerful spikes that were complimented by great positioning by their setters. Defensively, they contested most of the attempts in order to keep their opponents at bay.

Despite falling behind, SIS stayed composed and fought back, forcing MHS into errors that allowed SIS to narrow the gap.

But as the exchange continued, MHS managed to run away with a first set victory, 21-17.

In the second set, SIS played more aggressively and excelled near the net with constant spikes and well-timed blocks that gradually wore down MHS.

SIS gained a comfortable lead midway through the set. Paired with proper substitutions, SHS eventually claimed the second set, 21-12, to force a third and final set to determine the winner.

SIS entered the third set with more confidence. Hoo Wang earned a handful of highlight reels as she propelled her team through defensive blocks while her teammates provided coverage and turned each possession into a point.

MHS put up a fight, but miscommunication and inaccurate returns kept them trailing, allowing SIS to secure an upset victory, 15-6.
