this coming Saturday at 10 a.m., at the Airport Field.
The Smithereens held Marianas Eye Spectacular Blues to a scoreless draw while the Paradise In Cleats beat Wild Bill’s Wild Fire 1-0 with team captain Brenda Schultz scoring on a penalty kick.
Many of the Smithereens are new this kind of sports, according to team captain Nikki Gabaldon but just like how theyplayed in the past eight games, she assures team work will lead them to victory.
That was how they gain the lead beating Wild Fire, 1-0 during the May 24 game, as they managed to reign in the offensive with skilled passes.
Team Captain Nikki Gabaldon scored from the pass of Brianna Martin who skillfully secured the ball after an excellent pass from Madison Smith.
“It was awesome. Talk about teamwork,” Gabaldon commented after that match.
In May 26 game, the wind was moving in favor of the Paradise In Cleats but it could not stop the Smithereens from their winning streak. The Smithereens defeated Paradise In Cleats, 2-0.
Gabaldon credits goalies Jolene Dykstra and Maria Ornes successfully preventing the PIC from scoring.
In last weekend’s game, midfielder Maryana Gramlich, Smith and Lovelle D’ Lonsod managed to control the ball many times to their goal and made several attempts to cross over.
Catherine Andersen did an excellent job clearing the ball away from their goal in defense, and Ornes was always in the right spot of goal just when the Blues made several attempts.
Paradise In Cleats on the other hand have shown they can not be defeated that easily, as they managed to hold the Blues into a draw during May 24 game.
Michi Tenorio showed an excellent job scoring through a cross to the wide-open Jenny Linden during the final minute of the first half.
A beautiful pass from Meaghan Hassel-Shearer to Nicolette Seckler led to score in the second half.
In last weekend’s game, goalie Noi Horey’s tremendous save prevented Wild Fire’s Lindsay Davis from scoring. Earlier in the game, Horey blocked many shots through the game.
Sonya Lizama also did a great job clearing loose balls on its way to the goal.
Blues and Wild Fire will go head to head for the third place at 8 a.m.
