A total of eight people are bound for the competition. They are Jesse Santos, David Barnhouse, Richard Sikkel, Mike Tenorio, Jason Tarkong, Gil Birnbrich, Eldred Sanchez, and Eric Macduff. Many of these individuals are long-term athletes who have been paddling for at least three years or more.
Sikkel, an eight-year veteran in the sport, is currently the group’s head coach. They started practicing since March, four days a week, depending on their routine.
The team will leave for Palau on August 2, and is scheduled to compete in August 5, 6, and 7.
They will participate in three different categories consisting of a 500 meters, 1500 meters, and 15 miles race.
Aside from the national team, Sikkel stated that SOCC is also open to any new comers who wish to join.
