SAIPAN Southern High School squashed Saipan International School, 59-37, in the boys high school division of the IT&E Interscholastic Basketball League SY23-24 at the Ada gym on Friday.
Both teams started strong in a high-scoring first half.
SSHS found their range early as Carl Enriquez ignited his team and the crowd alike with three consecutive three-pointers.
SIS went for the safer approach with a handful of triples while Christian Newman and Omari Joab finished from the inside to stay closely behind.
SHSS continued to rain from afar with Jezpher Navarro adding two triples of his own to keep his team afloat, 30-28.
Following a close battle for control, SSHS flipped the script in the second half with pressure defense that turned into easy buckets on the other end.
While SIS was held to just nine points, SSHS had an offensive explosion led by Kian Helgen and Navarro to secure the easy win, 59-37.
Winners, too
Kagman High School defeated Grace Christian Academy, 52-39, with Reed and Justin Camacho leading the onslaught by scoring 10 and six points, respectively.
Also joining the winner’s circle was Marianas High School, which outplayed Mount Carmel School, 48-32.
