SSHS leads outrigger mixed division

SAIPAN Southern High School is demonstrating true strength and resilience in the open waters, leading both the boys and mixed divisions of the PSS-NMNPSF Interscholastic Outrigger Race Series SY24-25. This comes after the first points race day at Kilili Beach last Saturday.

SSHS, however, did not have the best start in the 500m preliminary round.

Seizing the spotlight was Kagman High School, as the chemistry of its mixed team of girls and boys powered through the single lap race with synced strokes to finish first with a time of 03.19.070. In second place was Marianas High School at 03:30.380 followed by Mount Carmel School at 03:30.630 and SSHS at 03:31.040.

SSHS made up for its initial performance by completely turning the tide in the final round with a first-place finish. MHS came in second followed by KHS in third and MCS in fourth.

In the points tally for the 500m event, SSHS and MHS tied for the lead with 15 points each, while KHS followed closely with 13 points. MCS placed fourth with 5 points.

In the 1000m race, MHS claimed first place in the prelim with a time of 07:13.750. Coming in second was SSHS at 07:29.200 followed by KHS at 07:29.260 and MCS at 08:41.500.

SSHS, however, had a knack for finishing strong when it mattered most as they came out victorious in the finals with a time of 06:51.650. Following behind was KHS at 07:06.640 and MCS at 07:21.740. MHS was disqualified for failing to clear the first turn.

SSHS accumulated 19 points to lead the 1000m event, followed by KHS with 13, while MHS and MCS earned 7 points each.

In the overall standings, SSHS’ steady performance secured the top spot with 34 points, followed by KHS with 26, MHS with 22, and MCS with 12.
