SSHS’ boy Mantas went out in full force to take revenge for their sister team, whipping Ayuyus via clever ball passes, quick picks, tight defense, and whirlwind of an offense.
Mantas beat Ayuyus, 77-68.
Once again, it was Tristan Ecalnea who formed a good offense for the Mantas as he went for 24 point-total in the match, hitting hard on Ayuyus’ defensive strategy, and eventually, breaking it with his hoops.
Savali Talalemotu of Ayuyus’ defensive move was not enough to prevent the Mantas from sinking baskets after another with the team’s good combination of skills and passing inside the zone.
Mantas cagers were prepared to make instant exchange inside the perimeter when faced with impossible block and defensive line of Ayuyus.
Mantas were basically trailing by several points in the first period but were able to recoup their team score deficit by establishing a solid, hard offense down the stretch, and stationed ready picks under the basket, thereby controlling rebound in their favor.
Ecalnea posted low for connections.
His failed attempts at the basket were saved by fellow mantas waiting below to recover his shots.
John Paul and Mevin Cadiang were instrumental in this offensive game strategy, anticipating Tristan’s ball passes in view of heavy opposition inside Ayuyus’ territory.
Ultimately, SSHS Manta Rays got what they wanted in the game and came out with a nine-point winner.
