Tange softball field needs of repair

In an interview yesterday, Lizama said that as soon as the school year starts this year, they expect to see more scholastic softball events that usually avail the Tange ball field.

Built more than 10 years ago, the Tange ball field is the usual venue for scholastic softball meets in elementary and high school.

The majors division of the annual Saipan Little League Baseball Tournament is also using the field. Through the years, the Tange ballfield is a silent witness to all the drama that gripped every game. It serves as back round in every picture of victory and struggle that keeps sports an exciting way of life for most people on the island.

Lizama said the bleachers in both sides of the field are already in bad shape. The seats need to be replaced. The roof needs to be repainted and the glass and walls of the press box needs improvement. The two dug outs, as well, need repainting and repair.

The field also needs ground facelift.

The last time the Tange Ballfield tasted renovation was in 2006 when it was prepared for the Micronesian Games.

Meanwhile, sports program coordinator, Derron Flores is asking members of the community to cooperate with them in maintaining the sports facilities.

The Gilbert C. Ada Gym, he noted is having some improvements now in preparation for the two basketball events that will open this weekend.

The seats are getting repainted, fans were installed and an area has been designated for individuals with disabilities.

When the season starts, he said, sports aficionados, especially those who never missed an event should help them maintain the gym.

They can do this by refraining from spitting better nut at the back of the bleacher, or leaving behind trash after the games.

“Let us treat the gym as our own,” Flores said.
