In the Men’s Singles category, CNMI’s todd Montgomery won Gold defeating Peter Loyola who took silver for the CNMI also, and Jeff Race who took Bronze for the CNMI once again. These players went head to head with each other and it was one tough competition as each player defeated by Montgomery came from the CNMI also.
In the Women’s Singles category, Kana Aikawa of team CNMI take gold home defeating Ayuri Sugahara of Guam who took silver back home, and Mayuko Arriola also of team CNMI who took bronze home.
In the Double’s Men’s category, Todd Montgomery and Jeff Race of team CNMI take Silver with teammates Bobby Cruz and Peter Loyola who take bronze home. Justin Dugan and Wendell Roden take gold home to Guam.
In the Double’s Men’s Category, Kana Aikawa and Mayuko Arriola combine their tennis skills to take gold back home to the CNMI. They defeated Alea Dugun and Terea Tapu of Guam who took silver home, and Abigail Gbewonyoand Akiko Udui of Palau who took bronze home.
In the Mixed Double’s category, Todd Montgomery and Mayuko Arriola of team CNMI take silver home along with Jeff Race and Kana Aikawa take bronze home. Gold went Justin Dugan and Alea Dugan of Guam.
The crowd heavily favored team Palau because they did not skip a beat when they put in 4 runs at the bottom of the first inning to lead 4 – 1 at the start of the gold medal game against team CNMI at the finals yesterday.
CNMI then tried to put runs but was stopped time and time again with Palau’s great outfielders.
As the score at 7 – 2 at the last inning of the well -attended championship game between the two countries, a CNMI player hit a powerful homerun to add a score on the board.
Just as team CNMI shifted the momentum to their side at the last innings in which they had a runner on first base; CNMI’s batter hit the ball straight into the gloves of Avery Amos who threw it straight to Melgnis Uchel for a double play.
And with two outs, Palau pitcher Kalson Dulei threw a fastball where a batter from CNMI hit a high flying ball which outfielder, Blaluk, caught it for the third out and a win for team Palau with a final tally of 7 – 3.
As a result Palau grabbed gold, team CNMI gets silver while team Guam received bonze after losing to CNMI in Sunday’s playoff game.
