Tennis included in 2009 Pacific Mini Games

Lobb told NMSA that two months after they announced it, ten countries indicated they will participate in tennis. These countries are Cook Islands, Fiji, Guam, New Caledonia, Papua New Guinea, Samoa, Solomon’s, Tahiti, Tonga and Vanuatu.

Lobb also assured more countries will participate so he is asking those countries not listed to advise them as soon as possible.

NMI has new breed of junior netters including top seed, Ji Hoon Heo and the team of younger tennis players who brought medals from New Zealand last week.

Lobb also said that the National Federation has confirmed athletic events will be held in the Pacific Mini Games.

These include 100-meter, 200m, 400m, 800m, 1500m, 5000m, 10000m, 3000m runs and half marathon, 20-kilometer  walk, 110-meter hurdles and 400-meter m hurdles, 4 x 100m and 4 x 400m relay runs, high jump, long Jump, and triple jump, shot-put, hammer, discus, and javelin throws and octathlon for men.

For women, the events will be 100-meter, 200m, 400m, 800m, 1500m, 5000m, 10000m, 3000m runs and half marathon; 20-kilometer walk, 100-meter and 400-meter hurdles; 4 x 100m and 4 x 400m relays; high jump, long jump, and triple Jump; shot-put, hammer, discus, and Javelin throws and heptathlon.

     Travel Arrangements

Lobb also informed NMASA that they have talked with Air New Zealand about the possibility of special Games flights both ex Nadi and Brisbane direct to Rarotonga in September and the return flight first week of October.

The Air New Zealand has advised it may be possible but the numbers would have to be confirmed in advance, for the special flights.
