As the tag line for the race implies, “Edge of the Trench 110”, the TDG is 110 km long and is staged on the portion of the island closest to the deepest point on earth, the famed Marianas Trench. This year’s race will be contested on Sunday February 27, 2011.
The race organizers organized the longest single day race on the island with over 5,000 feet of climbing. For those cyclists not quite ready to attempt the race solo, organizers offer a team category that enables riders of all skill levels to team up with other riders to complete the course.
The registrations have opened since December 1, 2010 and will remain open until February 25, 2011. The race is scheduled to kick off on Sunday, February 27, 2011 starting at Jeff’s Pirates Cove Ipan Talafofo. Show time is at 5 am and the race will begin at 6:45 am sharply.
Registration location will be at the Hornet Sporting Goods. The race numbering and pick up will be on the morning of the race.
The race will start at Jeff’s Pirates Cove(JPC) North, take a Left on Route 17 (Cross Island Road), take a right on Route 5 (Naval Mag Rd), take a Right on Route 2 at Mobil Station, take a right on Route 1 (Marine Corps Drive), take a Right on Route 4 at Paseo Loop, Follow Route 4 and go past JPC, take a right on Route 5 at Agat stop light, take a right on Route 17 (Cross Island Road), take a right on Route 4 and finish at JPC.
The race distance is about 110 km (68 miles). Team Relay Points/Aid Stations will be posted to help competitors out. Relay Point 1 will be stationed 28 kilometers from starting line which will be the Pigo Cemetery Parking Lot in Anigua. Relay Point 2 will be on Top of 2nd Inarajan Hill Climb. And Relay Point 3 will be at the Sella Valley Overlook.
First place finisher for both men and women’s division solo will get $750, second place will take home $500 and third place will cart off $200 and medals.
First place finishers for both men and women’s division, co-ed 2 person team will get $200, second place will get $100, and third place will get $50 and medals.
For the finishers for both the men and women’s 4 person team will receive medals and other great prizes. Men’s and women’s Age Group-Solo top finishers will be awarded medals.
The age group-solo divisions are the open 19 and under, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55 and over.
The awards banquet will follow the race shortly at 6:30 pm at the PIC Skylight Restaurant.
