The five day event will start next week Monday, October 18, and will last until October 22. Interested physical education teachers and youth development coordinators may register through manually completed applications or online, through the NMIVA’s website.
The course will consist of lectures on volleyball rules, its history, as well as training for treating injuries related to the sport.
World renowned volleyball coach Tomas Santamaria Jr. was chosen to instruct the course. He first visited Saipan in 2008 to teach for the FIVB VCP Level 1 Coaches Certification Course, according to the NMIVA.
Completed applications may be delivered to VCP program coordinator Gabriel White through the Law Offices of Michael White, located at the Joeten Building’s second floor in Susupe. Registration forms filled online will be confirmed by a NMIVA representative and applicants deriving from the same school must register individually.
The VCP training course was primarily scheduled for September, but was delayed for a month due to the unavailability of FIVB instructors.
Applications must be submitted before 5:30 p.m. on Friday, October 15. A registration fee of $100 must accompany all registration forms. Half of the fee will be refunded to the applicant if he or she fully attends the course, and the other half will be refunded if applicants pass the final exam and receive their certificate.
The course will accommodate a maximum of 30 participants, whose seats will be reserved on a first come, first serve basis. In addition, the Public School System will be granting Professional Development Credit for teachers who attend the course.
